What are you not allowed to do?

While telecommunications users have a lot of rights, there are some things they are not allowed to do.  These include:

  • Intentionally using a telecommunications service without paying for it.
  • Intentionally interfering with communications equipment.
  • Trying to provide or obtain a device that allows someone to interfere with communications equipment.
  • Using any communications equipment to harass anyone.
  • Intentionally reading a communication that was not meant for you.
  • Misleading the TRA.
  • Not complying with any rule or regulation made by the TRA relating to users.

If you are convicted of an offence under the Act, you can be liable for a fine of up to $50,000 and up to one year in jail.
